How we protect your personal information (POPIA)
Let's Talk Money processes personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). Information Officer: the Information Officer (details to be added in Members → Settings).
What we collect and why
- Free membership: name, email, cellphone, province, age group, gender and work status, to give you access, track your progress, issue certificates and report our impact in anonymous, combined form.
- Check-ins and learning progress: your answers, scores and any proof photos you choose to add, to show your own progress and measure programme impact. Reports we share with employers or sponsors contain only combined totals, never names, and groups of fewer than five people are left out.
- Your story (testimonials, optional): your name, your words and, if you add one, your photo, published only with the consent you tick, after we approve it. We store the consent wording, its version and the date. Photos are resized and stripped of location data. You can withdraw your story at any time in My learning → My story; we then remove it and delete the photo.
- Forms (contact, webinar, SDF application, newsletter): the details you enter, to respond to you and, if you agree, send you updates.
- Workplace training: attendance register details and session feedback, to provide the training and the evidence your employer needs for skills development reporting.
- Business Hub (SDFs, facilitators, partners and clients): contact, compliance, contract and payment details, to run our contracts with you.
- Employee information processed for employers (skills planning and reporting): this may include race and disability, which are special personal information. We process it only on the employer's instruction, for skills development and employment equity reporting, with access limited to the employer and their appointed Skills Development Facilitator.
Who we share it with
We never sell your information. We share it only where needed: with your employer or their SDF (for workplace training records), and with service providers who help us operate, website hosting, email delivery (Amazon Web Services) and payments (PayFast). Some service providers may store information outside South Africa under safeguards required by POPIA.
How long we keep it
Only as long as needed for the purpose, or as the law requires (for example financial records for five years). Training records are kept so employers can meet their reporting obligations.
